Notes: Published in autumn 1884.

Once in the year 1886 the poet had been to Krishnanagar. He had to face a bizarre incident. Indira Devi Chowdhurani describes in her book Rabindra-smriti -

... Krishnanagar hosted a classical music conference with Satya Lahiri, son of Ramtanu Lahiri, at its centre, my husband too was a part of that. When asked to sing a song at the conference, I had learnt from my husband, Rabi-kaka had chosen this song. He had to face an awkward situation when the so called classical audience had tried to pin him down with vociferous and sharp comments like - ' Yes, often people are tempted to play on a flute which is not everybody's cup of tea. It requires sincere education', etc. The song with simple melody was unable to satisfy them, who were in search of the complicated manoeuvres of Hindustani classical music or taan.

Basori bajete chahi, basori bajilo koi
Bihoriche samirab, kuhoriche pikgon
Mathurar upoban kusume sajilo oi
Bikach bakulphool dekhe je hoteche bhul
Khothakar olikul gunjare kothai
A nahe ki brindaban kotha sei chandranon
Oi ki nupurdhoni banopathe suna jai
Aka asechi bane bosi, pit dhara pare khasi
Songori je mukhshashi paran majilo soi
Akbar radhe radhe dak basi monosadhe
Aji a madhur chade mahur jamini vai
Kotha se bidhura bala malinmalatimala
Dridoye birahojala, a nishi pohai hai
Kabi je holo akul, aki re bidhir bhul
Mathurai kano phool futeche aji lo soi
