Notes: This song was written to replace a shloka (hymn) by Bidhu Shekhar Shastry in drama 'Sarodotsava' in 1909 on the very day it was scheduled to be staged. In this beautiful composition in raag Ramkeli Teevra Madhyam has been left off. This is why his compositions in Ramkeli resembles to Bhairon and Kalangara.

Layout of the composition in 1894, published in autumn 1908.

An initial layout was referred to in a letter dated 10th September 1894 that was included in 'Chhinna Patrabali', where he writes -

... Innumerable are the phrases that I attach to my tunes every now and then - I keep some of these very short songs and discard the rest. I don't feel like composing complete songs with them. Sitting on a cot I keep on enjoying the golden rays of the sun, as if drinking drop by drop and leisurely gliding my passionate eyes over the floating tender green algae. I am happy with the thoughts which peep out eventually as I am unable to achieve more. I have spent the entire morning reciting continuously today, two-three lines in plain Bhairavi. I would like share it as far as I can recall -

Ogo tumi nabo nabo rupe eso praane

(aamar nityo nabo!) ...

It took fourteen more years to complete the composition of this song and finally it was ready for enacting the play 'Sharodotsav'. Charuchandra Bandopadhyay has referred to it in his book 'Rabirashmi' -

... for this purpose poet Bidhushekhar Shashtri was requested to recite a Sanskrit verse. I had come out with a proposal that the verse written by the poet himself, the writer of the play to be recited. Rabindranath replied - If you can spare me for half an hour I can give it a try. He was spared. He came out with a poem and a song for which he had already composed a tune. Both of them were later printed atop the introduction of the play.
