Sudhira Basu, Nandalal Basu’s wife, has written in her memoire ‘Mohilader Smritite Rabindranath’ –
… it was a moonlit night, a few students traded across the Nepal road singing Gurudev’s new song ‘Chnaader haasir bnaadh bhengechhe …’. It must be a mistake somewhere or the tune may have deviated a little, Rabindranath started singing the song, open-throated, from the top of Dehali. His voice echoed all over the Ashram. As if the air of Shantiniketan started singing along. Everyone busy with errands had stalled. Voice of a single individual filled the air. … It was a stoke of luck that evening to listen to the mesmerizing voice of Gurudev accompanied by moon-light, at least for the error the boys had made. …
