Taal: Dadra
Raag: Mishra Jhinjhat
Written on: In autumn 1897
Swarabitan: 35
Notation by: Rabindranath Tagore
Notes: This song is among those few for which Rabindranath himself had written a score. Indira Debi too thought it to be the only song for which Rabindranath had prepared a notation. She writes in Visvabharati patrika -
... I had preserved the notation, prepared by respected Rabindranath himself, for this song. I present this in public because I believe that this is the only notation prepared by him. I have much doubt regarding the authenticity of the notations which are published in different books and periodicals suffixed with his name. Practically I cannot remember him preparing a notation while staying at Calcutta. Residents of Shantiniketan, I presume, would support my viewpoint.
I cannot make out the exact date on which this notation was prepared, neither that is important at all. But the worn out condition of the paper would suggest it to be old enough. It was not possible to curve out blocks for the original script as it was written in blue pencil. Everything else has been done with due importance. Recent sheet maker may find it curious to see that Rabindranath did not follow the postulates of the simple Aakarmatrik notation. It is hard to deduce whether it was his originality or due to this system of notation was still in its infancy.
Yet another point of interest is that the lyrics found in the notation have been altered while printing. …
