Shantidev Ghosh in his book ‘Rabindra-sangeet’ has written –
... He [Rabindranath] was very much in a frenzy state with ‘Chitrangada’ when I was summoned early in the morning. Normally he did not send a call so early. He was not done with his breakfast when I had reached. A song had struck his head last night, he said, and he could not sleep after that. The tune and unpolished lyrics had haunted him all night. He had penned it after leaving his bed in the morning. He was a bit sorry for the song had appeared clearly at night however the tune got cluttered due to a variety of reasons in the morning.
