Notes: This song was written in the support for the 'Banga Bhango Rodh' movement in 1905 and first sung on 25th August 1905. Derived from a Bangla lokgeeti "Aami Kothay Pabo Taare". In her memoir 'Jiboner Jhorapaata' (pg-33) Sarala Devi writes.
... I had collected quite a few Baul songs from the boatmen while staying with Karta-dadamoshay at Chinsura. My anxiousness troubled me until I could present them all at the prehensile ears of Rabi-mama. He used to convert, rephrase and recompose them aptly an altogether new song as I would sing them. Jodi tor daak shune keu na aase ... , Aamar sonar baangla ... etc. all are composed from tunes that I have collected. ...
This song was composed along with other songs not fewer than twenty two after the date for the Partition of Bengal had been formally announced. The poet was residing at Giridih with his family at that time. His close associates had published the songs at Kolkata and they were called Swadeshi songs.
The first ten lines of the song was accepted as the National Anthem of the independent country Bangladesh in the year 1971.
