Amita Sen (Khuku), resident of Shantiniketan Ashram and an accomplished Rabindra sangeet singer of that time is deeply connected with this song. Another Amita Sen, daughter of Kshiti-mohan Sen remembers in her book – 'Shantiniketaner Ashram-konya' –

... Amita had stayed at Shantiniketan for some time before her death. She used to go and sing songs to Gurudev in the morning and evening. Gurudev was particularly fond of her songs. He used to wait for her to arrive and he would place his list of demands as soon as she arrived. Amita continued singing songs of his choice one after another.

One day he wished to listen to the song 'Aami tomar songe ...'. He smiled at Khuku after she had finished – 'Well, do you remember anything with this song?' She laughed loudly. It was her habit to express with giggles. Rabindranath had said that day – 'I had composed this song with her in my mind.'

People who were present that day had asked Amita at a later time – 'How could you suppress this invaluable accomplishment of divine intervention within yourself? We would have proclaimed it volubly all over.' She had explained her feelings to them – 'Don't I understand the profound meaning of the song although Gurudev had made a point? Do you think this overwhelming realisation can take such a diminutive shape? The supreme direction which his expressions follow is clear and the depth of his thoughts profound, my connection to this song happens to be merely a coincidence.' ...

Shailaja-ranjan Majumdar, in his book 'Jaatrapother Aanondogaan has written –

... Khuku was the nickname of a girl in the Aashram, her good name was Amita Sen. Gurudev loved her very much as she was brought up and educated in the Aashram. She used to sing with her cockoo-voice, open-throated, on the streets within the premises. Gurudev had written this song with her in his back of mind.

He had requested me to take some chocolates for her when the doctors of Belgachhia [R.G.Kar] hospital had failed to see any hope for her to survive from nephritis. He had said – 'Khuku used to love chocolates. She will not survive, you should visit her personally and give her the chocolates.' ...
