Moitreyee Devi has shered a memory of an evening while Rabindranath staying at Mongpu in her house –

… Another song was played that day, ‘Aami Tomay Jato Shuniyechhilem Gaan’. After the gramophone had stopped He started singing it once again. … Melodies aren’t captivable, neither its lovely fantasy. Hence the delightful reverie of the evening was lost. Maasi said – ‘Do you seriously think to remember?’ He looked back and grinned – ‘Quite so, I’ll remember the green deluge on the mountain in front, the proud trees, thoroughfare of the mountainous people at a distance, Geranium on the steps, cue of the evening lamps, everything.’ He smiled – ‘I know Mongpu shall be remembered - those words, O Poet, once you shall remember. In the rainwashed nights with breeze of the spring.’

Aami tomay jato shuniyechhilem gaan
Taar badole aami chaai ne kono daan.
Bhulbe je gaan jodi naahoy jeyo bhule
Utthbe jakhon taara sondhyasaagorkule,
Tomar sabhay jobe korbo abosan
Ei kadiner sudhu ei koti mor taan.
Tomar gaan je kato shuniyechhile more
Sei kothati tumi bhulbe kemon kore ?
Sei kothati, kobi porbe tomar mone

Eituku mor sudhu roilo obhiman
Bhulte se ki paaro bhuliyechho mor praan.
