Parjaay: Jatiya Sangeet (1)
Raag: Bhairavi
Written on: 1878
Published in: Jatiya Sangeet
Swarabitan: Notation not available
Notes: A durbar had followed after the announcement by lord Litton declaring Queen Victoria as the Empress of India. Rabindranath had written a poem and composed a song commemorating this event. A report by Akshay Chandra Sarkar published on 4th March 1877 in his weekly reads -
... Rabindranath had written a poem and composed a song about Delhi durbar. We sat on the grass under a huge tree and listened to them. He is quite a boy not exceeding sixteen or seventeen. Yet his poeticism had been amazing, recitation in his mellow voice was in fact mesmerising. ...
The poem could easily be identified as Delhi Durbar, although, identification of the song remains dubious. Nabin Chandra Sen has mentioned about the song in his autobiography, although, he did not remark about the theme of the song. Nabakanta Chattopadhyay in his book Bharatiya Sangeet Muktabali published in 1884 had included this song as a poem written by Rabindranath Tagore.
