Taal: Teyora
Raag: Iman-Kalyan
Written on: 1940
Swarabitan: 55
Notation by: Shailajaranjan Majumdar

A song with starting phrase – 'Bangojanoni mandirangan mongalojjwal aajo hey ...' was written in 1904 on the occasion of welcome celebration of Sayajirao Geakwad, the Maharaja of Baroda. The basic tune was composed in the same time. It was written on request from the poet's relative and friend, Asutosh Chowdhury.
In 1917 Basu Biggyan-mondir was established. This song was altered to 'Maatri-mondir Punyo Angan' and sung on the occasion of its openning.
The next alteration was in 1925, when an orientalist, Carlo Fermici, from Italy had come to Shantiniketan to join as a professor. It was rewritten by Rabindranath as 'Shanti-mondir Punyo Angan'.
The last alteration to the latest version was done in 7th August, 1940, when Sir Dr. Sarbapalli Radhakrishnan and Sir Maurice Gwyer, the then Chief Justice of The Federal Court in India as the representatives of The Oxford University visited Shantiniketan to present the honorary award of 'Doctor of Literature' (D.Lit) to Rabindranath.
It is a rare feat in the history of world literature to have altered the lyrics of a song on four occasions to meet varied requirements. There is no such song written by Rabindranath either.
