Once in the year 1886 the poet had been to Krishnanagar. He had to face a bizarre incident. Indira Devi Chowdhurani describes in her book Rabindra-smriti -
... Krishnanagar hosted a classical music conference with Satya Lahiri, son of Ramtanu Lahiri, at its centre, my husband too was a part of that. When asked to sing a song at the conference, I had learnt from my husband, Rabi-kaka had chosen this song. He had to face an awkward situation when the so called classical audience had tried to pin him down with vociferous and sharp comments like - ' Yes, often people are tempted to play on a flute which is not everybody's cup of tea. It requires sincere education', etc. The song with simple melody was unable to satisfy them, who were in search of the complicated manoeuvres of Hindustani classical music or taan.

Bnaashori baajete chaahi, bnaashori baajilo koi. Bihorichhe somiram, kuhorichhe pikogon, Mathurar upoban kusume saajilo oi. Bikacho bokulphul dekhe je hotechhe bhul, Kothakar olikul gunjare kothay E nahe ki brindaban, kotha sei chandranan, Oi ki nupurdhwoni, bonopathe shuna jaay. Eka esechhi bone bosi, pito dhara pare khosi, Songori je mukhoshashi paran mojilo soi. Ekbar raadhe raadhe daak bnaashi monosaadhe - Aaji e modhur chnaade modhur jaamini bhaay. Kotha se bidhura baala - molinmaalotimaala, Hridaye birahojwaala, e nishi pohay haay. Kobi je holo aakul, eki re bidhir bhul, Mothuray keno phul phutechhe aaji lo soi.
