This song was first recorded by Sahana-devi. She also holds the credit of its musical notation that was published in 1343B. There are notable differences between it and the one prepared by Dinendranath, published by Visva Bharati. Prasadkumar Sen, a theorist of Rabindra Sangeet says –
… the tune that we were taught by Soumendranath Tagore resembles to the one sung by Sahana-devi, which confirms the fact that this tune had been prevalent at that time. …
In this connection he has retrieved a letter written by Dinendranth to Sahana-devi in the form of a poem. It was published in ‘Ramya-beena’ in the Boishakh number of 1367B. He had asked for the tunes of three songs as he failed to remember them. It was written in the month of Phalgun, 1340B. The notation prepared by Sahana-devi was published in 1343B, two years after the death of Dinendranath. Visva Bharati had published the notation in Swarabitan, pt-3, edited by Shailajaranjan Majumdar in 1345B, two more years later. It was announced that the notation was prepared by Dinendranath. It appears that Dinendranth had compelety forgotten about the letter asking for the tunes to Sahana-devi.
It is also worth mentioning that the recording of Sahana-devi starts with ‘Dukkho aamar …’ although the notation begins with ‘Ebaar dukkho aamar …’. This is not the only song with so much of confusion there are many more examples.
