Shantimoyee Dutta, daughter of Sitaram Tatwabhushan, a pundit of Brahmo Samaj, writes in her memoir, ‘Mohilader smritite Rabindranath’ -
… I saw Rabindranath in the year 1906. ... I used to take music lessons at Brahmo-vidyalaya. ... We were summoned at the house of Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose which was at the other side of the street. Rabindranath will present some newly written songs and the girls would pick them from his voice. ... Amala Das, sister of Chittaranjan Das sat in front of the organ. The poet took out a small notebook from his pocket and sang - Jodi tor daak shune ... and Ebaar tor mora gaange ...
At first he sang solo songs and then Amala Das accompanied him. His free-flowing tenor voice appearing pretty feminine yet his mellow voice seemed to reverberate the entire room. We, the girls stood dazzled with the exquisite glamour of the singer and completely mesmerised with the unmatched beauty of the melody.
