This song reflects the sorrow he had to endure after the second World war broke out. Christmas was observed in Shantiniketan this year when Mr. Andrews served as the conductor for the last time. He had died on the next April. This song was sung on the occasion for the first time. It was written following the theme of the poem 'Maanab-putro' from the collection 'Punoscho'. It was first published with a name 'Barodin' in the Maagh, 1346 number of 'Probasi'. Moitreyee Devi has a recollection in her book – 'Swarger Kaachhakachhi' –
... This time Christmas celebration was scheduled. Mr.Andrews would come . ... He said to me in the afternoon – 'I had written a prose-poem on Christ, didn't I? O yes, I know, you don't like prose-poems.' I replied – 'Well, I am fetching it.' And browsed through the copy of 'Punoscho' for the poem 'Maanab-putro'. The poet now said – 'Now you ease yourself, I will compose a tune for this.' In the evening I came to see that a new song has been created 'Ekdin Jaara ...'. The poet said – 'This song would be sung on the occasion of Christmas. Andrews would be happy.'
On the next morning Indulekha Ghosh was summoned. She picked the song in her voice from him. Then he alleged – 'Now look, this girl would try to point at my errors when it was my turn to sing despite the fact that she has learnt the song from me.' ...
