Rabindranath loved Sahana-devi (Jhunu), niece of Chittaranjan Das as a proficient singer. She writes in her book ‘Smritir Kheya' about the celebration of Basantotsava in 1923 –
… Soon after we have returned from Kashi to Kolkata in the beginning of the year 1923, I was summoned for singing for the ‘Basanta’ celebration. … The poet used to love the flamboyant Hindi songs from me. Often I used to sing to him the songs I knew. I had sung two such Hindi songs in front of him. He asked me right after I had completed one – ‘Wait, wait, let me substitute these with some Bengali words.’ I was asked to continue with the song and meanwhile he was swapping the words. The song ‘Maharaja Kewadiya Khol…’, that I had learnt from Atulprasad had been remodeled into ‘Khelar Saathi Bidaydwaar Kholo…’ and the song ‘Prem Dagariya Mein Na Karo …’, obtained from one of my cousins, was converted into ‘Jaawa Aasar Ei Ki Khela …’. It was amazing how quickly he completed the replacements. He asked me as soon as he had completed it – ‘You’ll have to sing these two songs in the celebration, do you agree?’ …
