Artefacts like photographs, paintings, sculptures are often found to influence other artists in their creation. Rabindranath is no exception and the story behind the creation of the song 'Tumi ki keboli chhobi ...' after seeing a photograph of Satyaprasad Gangopadhyay is well-known. This time it was a painting of Nandalal Basu named 'Dikkha', meaning sacrament, depicting an old priest conferring sacrament to a young disciple or may be his son. The painting was published in Bharati (Joistho,1317B). The caption included a unique statement -
... Needless to say about this painting, mere reference of the song created by the respected poet Rabindranath should talk for it.
The song was printed after it with a little alteration.
Death anniversary of Maharshi Debendtanath Tagore was observed in a grand style a few days ago on 19th January 1910 (6th Magh, 1316B). Tatwabodhini (Phalgun 1316B), read - 'Two new songs were written and sung on this occasion. They are - Purabi, Ektaal, Nibhrita praaner debota ... and
Baul sur, Kaharwa, Kon aalote praaner prodip ... .
Incidentally both the songs were written in the same day.
