Notes: This song was written in the spring, 1927.
The form of the various songs which we see today was not in which they were written at their initial stage. Various changes were brought in after they were even finalized. On few occasions Rabindranath had been self-motivated to undertake the changes although some of them were inspired by others. Often he used to accept suggestions from young aspirants. Sahana-debi has written on account of this song in 'Smritir Kheya' –
… No sooner than I had reached Dinu-da had arrived. We started waiting looking at his face in expectation. The poet said – 'I have just completed composing a dance-song.' And he started sing the song 'Nrityero taale taale hey Natoraj'.
Everyone present was spellbound and Dinu-da too was ecstatic. However I had thought that four different rhythms for the four stanzas would bring up quite uniqueness to the song. I did not waste time to express myself – 'How'd like if four stanzas of the song are assigned to four different rhythms?'
His immediate reaction was positive. He said to Dinu-da –'How do you feel?'
Dinu-da too took no time to endorse and four separate rhythm patterns were assigned to the song. However the segment 'Namo namo namo tomr nrityo amito bitto bhoruk chitto mamo' was not there when we had learnt it. It was annexed by the poet later on. …
