Notes: This song was composed on 7th March 1915, while travelling in a train from Bolpur to Kolkata.
Rabindranath was travelling by train to Barrackpore via Kolkata. Lord Harding, the Governor had requested Him to see him. The birthday of the King, the Fifth George was on 3rd June and on the occasion of next birthday he had planned to offer the prestigious Knighthhod to Rabindranath. He had invited the poet in order to obtain an agreement for the plan from Him. Rabindranath was particularly thankful to Lord Harding as he had been instrumental in the withdrawal of the order that wards of government employees would not be allowed to study in the Ashram. Hence He could not turn down the request. He went to see the Governor and on the way He composed two different songs. One of them is Choli Go Choli Go …’, and the second one is ‘Ogo Nodi Aaponbege Paagolpaara …’.
Prashantakumar Pal and Shantidev Ghosh both have agreed to the fact that this song was composed while travelling by train from Bolpur to Kolkata, however, Kanika Bandyopadhyay had said that this was a song written while having a journey by boat.
This song was later adapted as a song sung by the blooming tree in the drama ‘Phalguni’.
