Rabindra-katha is one of the oldest biographies of Rabindranath, written by Khagendranath Chattopadhyay. He was a grand-grandson of prince Dwarakanath Tagore's nephew and he had lived in Shibu Thakur lane next to Dwarakanath Thakur lane. In this book he had referred to this song -
... This song was scheduled for Srish-Babu for the role of Chandra-Babu. But due to some reason he wasn't able to sing and then Rabindranath himself appeared on the stage as a self-portrayal and delivered the song. It necessitated a few changes in the dialogues of the drama. Chandra-Babu would ask his friends to wait for a while as a meeting with the poet Rabindranath was scheduled for the day. Later upon arrival of the poet he was introduced with the others and requested for a song. In this context he presented the song.
