Notes: This song was written on 19th January, 1927 at Kolkata.
Visitors, who had experienced 'Notir Puja' staged at Shantiniketan on the occasion of Rabindranath's birthday, had requested the poet to stage it once again at Kolkata. Inspired by repeated requests he had organized to stage it at Jorasanko on the occasion of Maghotsava. However he was not very confident about the reaction from the audience he would expect for the dance performance of a dignified lady on a public stage. Probably in order to avoid controversies he had added the character 'Upali' and he himself chose to enact the character and also sang this song on the stage. The version that was first published, on the monthly edition of Basumati (Boishakh number of 1333B), did not have this song.
