Shailaja-ranjan Majumdar, in his book 'Jaatrapother Aanondogaan has written in the context of Barsha-mangal in 1939 –
... Another request for a song I had placed after it, in the same manner, dropped a piece of paper inscribed with 'Baagesree'.
Gurudev was surprised to see that and said – 'You have asked me to compose monsoon song in Baagesree, is it at all possible? You are lucky enough that such a foolish proposal of yours finds no one but me.'
I had answered – 'This does not holds good for you. Your touch can make it happen which seems impossible. I can well remember you to have composed a tune for 'Prothom juger udayodigangane ...', the poem as a preface of Geetabitan, in minutes after I had asked you for. I think it would not consume much time before you can compose a melody for the editorial column of the Anandabazar. You have already composed a song for a stormy night in Baagesree.'
He objected – 'Never!'
I reached for the book from the shelf, opened it to show him before singing the song. It was 'Je raate mor duwarguli bhanglo jhore ...'. He was rather stunned as he listened to my song unto its last.
On the next day the song 'Saghana Gahana Raatri ...' was obtained. I picked up the melody keenly. When I again reached him with the notation I had prepared for it he altered the section 'sethay birohinir osru horon korechhe oi taara ...' by introducing komal dhaivat and it was simply a marvel.
It was evening and I was imparting the song 'Saghana gahana Raatri ...' to the students in front of him. He said to me after they were all gone –'The way you teach them, the way you treat with them, you would scare them off. You pose like a Sanitary Inspector!' ...
