NirmalKumari Mahalanabish had accompanied Rabindranath in his tour to Europe. She had mentioned in her book 'Kobir Songe Europe' –
… He had to travel from Copenhagen to Hamburg by train. Around midnight the entire train used to cross the Baltic Sea onboard a ship with all its passengers in. On that night while sailing yet on the train the poet had composed the song 'Se Kon Paagol Jaay …'. I could hear him murmuring as we were not far away. After a while he called me and said – 'Come here quickly and take this tune. I may lose it if I wait till morning. A new melody will have to be composed again.'
He had imparted me the song after writing and composing the tune for it. Lately he used to be anxious to transfer the tune to anyone close by soon after composing a new one, so that he or she can help him remember it in case he was unable to do so. He could recollect the entire melody with a slender queue. …
