Notes: This song was written in the year 1878 prior to his first trip to England. Satyendranath, Debendranath's second son, had a friend at Bombay (now Mumbai), Dadoba Panduranga. It was assumed that Anna Targhar, daughter of Panduranga would be the best person to train Rabindranath with English etiquettes and also the language before his journey to England. Beautiful Anna have been educated in English environment although she was elder than Rabindranath by a couple of years. He had developed a brief courtship with her which he has mentioned at times. A new name, 'Nolini' for her, is believed, to be a gift from the poet. There are reasons to assume that this song was written with this young lady in the bottom of his mind. A reference is found in the thirteenth chapter of 'Chhelebela',

... After staying at Ahmadabad Mej-dada might have thought that in order to provide some respite to my homesick soul I must have a girl-friend. It might be handy for my English learning too. Hence, I had to take shelter temporarily at a residence of a family at Bombay. A girl, member of the family, bright and educated in England, was my accomplice. She could have easily ignored me for my meagre education, but she didn't. I would always try to promote my poet's identity whenever I could find a chance as it was my assured capital. She had gladly accepted my poetic ability without any question. She had placed a demand for a nick name for her to the poet. Soon I came out with one - she loved the sound. She had also wished to have her name twined with my poetry. I lyricized it, she heard the composition in BHAIRAVI, a morning tune. The expression for her admiration was - 'I would perhaps be reincarnated by your song.' ...

Pundits believe that this was song that was a part of the legacy.

Shuno nolinee, kholo go aankhi –
Ghum ekhano bhaangilo na ki !
Dekho, tomari duar pare
Sakhee, esechhe tomari robi.
Shuni probhater gaatha mor
Dekho bhengechhe ghumer ghor,
Jagat uthechhe nayon meliya nutan jiban labhi.
Tabe tumi ki sajanee jaagibe naako,
Aami je tomari kobi.
Protidin aasi, protidin haasi,
Protidin gaan gaahi –
Protidin praate shuniya se gaan
Dhire dhire utho chaahi.
Aajio esechhi, cheye dekho dekhi
Aar to rajoni naahi.
Aajio esechhi, utho utho sakhee,
Aar to rajoni naahi.
Sokhi, shishire mukhani maaji
Sokhi, lohit basone saaji
Dekho bimalo sarasi-aarshir pare aparup ruparaashi.
Theke theke dhire heliya poriya
Nijo mukhochhaaya aadhek heriya
Lalito adhare uthibe phutiya sharamer mridu haasi.
