Notes: Indira Debi got married at the age of twenty six. Maiden status for such a long period for girl belonging to an aristocrat family was very much uncommon those days, moreover it is not hard to imagine the length of the queue of young aspirants for a damsel beautiful enough and also known as a daughter of a person with huge repute. She had elaborated all these in her memoir quite a number of times and neither of these stories has been concealed. In fact, this song was written by Rabindranath in connection with a similar unsuccessful candidate for the purpose. The excellence of the song, although, seems to have gone past the ridicule by a long way. She writes in her memoir 'Srmiti-samput' -
... One such candidate was an unknown person. He used to stand under a tree outside the main gate for a long time. Of late we had known his name, even his elder sister had approached with a proposal. It was nevertheless discarded by all. I am not certain although, but it appears to me that the song 'Sokhi protidin haay...' seems to be relevant with this episode, because neither of our family-members was left uninformed. ...The song was however written while the poet was moving from Sajadpur to Patisar by boat on Nagar River where Indira Debi was not present.
