Asitkumar Haldar, the renowned artist, was son of Suprabha, daughter of Sharatkumari Devi, Rabindranath’s elder sister, in his memoire, ‘Rabi-tirthe’ had written –
… I had been to Ranchi on the summer vacation, while Mukulchandra Dey, one of my students, staying back in Ashram. He approached Gurudev for a new theme to paint which he could not make out single-handedly. He could approach anyone and quite easily he could manage favours. The poet advised him to draw an image of Saraswati, the divine erudite. He had specific request to avoid the calendar style. Mukul had bent upon the board and started producing a series of Saraswati images. Sadely none of them could impress the poet. I came back after my holidays and once again ‘Rabi-da’(du) had forwarded the request for sketching the image of Saraswati, the Divine Erudite. The way he had elaborated me the picture with a radiant halo I had painted a flaming image of Saraswati. After unveiling the completed painting in front of Rabi-da it immediately created a musical impression within him. And he started singing in a low subdued voice tapping with his fingers. A new song was composed – ‘Tumi je surer aagun laagiye dile mor praane …’.
The choir of the Ashram learnt the song from Dinu-da.
