He is fond of all sorts of music and likes to try music and songs of all genres, but not with too much seriousness and solemnity. But he likes, sings and has continued to learn Bengali Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Geeti.

His interest in Tagore’s poems and songs (their English translations) began purely for its lyrical value. But later, though he doesn’t (and even now don’t) know Bengali, he started learning the songs when he understood that many of Tagore’s poems are too mystic that they are open to many perceptions according to the mood of each individual and that the unique style of Rabindra Sangeet encompassed a wide range of emotions eloquently expressed through melody and rhythm. He learnt Rabindra Sangeet from Late Sri. Tarit Kumar Chowdhuri of Bangalore and later from Sri. Sunil Kumar Patra of Chennai. Both of them are accomplished old-time singers and teachers of Rabindra Sangeet and since both of them speak English well, it was easy for him to understand the purport of the song first and then learn.

As he learn each song his awe and wonder keep increasing when he knew how this illustrious universal poet called Rabindranath Tagore could so beautifully align the most suitable tunes with his wonderfully imaginative poems perfectly apt to the mood and emotion conveyed in each of them!
