Shantimoyee Dutta, daughter of Sitaram Tatwabhushan, a pundit of Brahmo Samaj, writes in her memoir, Mohilader smritite Rabindranath -
I saw Rabindranath in the year 1906. ... I used to take music lessons at Brahmo-vidyalaya. ... We were summoned at the house of Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose which was at the other side of the street. Rabindranath will present some newly written songs and the girls would pick them from his voice. ... Amala Das, sister of CR Das sat in front of the organ. The poet took out a small notebook from his pocket and sang - Jodi tor daak shune ... and Ebaar tor mora gaange ...
At first he sang solo songs and then Amala Das accompanied him. His free-flowing tenor voice appearing pretty feminine yet his mellow voice seemed to reverberate the entire room. We, the girls stood dazzled with the exquisite glamour of the singer and completely mesmerised with the unmatched beauty of the melody.
An ex-student of Shantiniketan, Kamakhyanath Roy, in his book Gayak Rabindranath has described -
... There was a Japanese organ at the corner. Gurudev used to play the organ and teach us the song 'Ekla cholo re ...' . He had sung the song numerous times and tried to teach the students the song.
Rabindranath had been to Italy in June 1926 on invitation from Musoulini. On 20th June he had delivered a lecture in a huge auditorium of a music school at Turin. It was followed by a song recital by Slavalipo Evitzka, a lady poet. She sang three Bengali songs - 'Hey mor debota ...', ' Ami chini go chini tomare ...' and 'Jodi tor daak shune ...'. The songs were accompanied in violin by Prof. Giaccone and Tympanist Meana.
Nirmalkumari Mahalanabish has mentioned in her book Kobir Sange Europe -
... The native colour of the song was quite identifiable although presented in a foreign style. Especially the song 'Jodi tor daak shune ...' seemed the one that we are very much acquainted of. The rapt audience being introduced to the poet's song greeted him clapping for a long time.
