Shailaja-ranjan Majumdar, in his book – 'Jatrapother Aanondogaan', has said –
... Gurudev had arranged for a program 'Barsha-mangal' on the stage 'Chhaaya' at Kolkata [on 4th and 5th September, 1937] where artists both from Shantiniketan and Kolkata had participated. The auditorium was quite large and obviously there was no microphone at that time. It was revealed in the stage rehearsal that the solo songs were not clearly audible from the far end. Gurudev had two proposals – 'Either go for a higher scale or adapt the solo songs to duet.' Singers assigned to sing solo were quite upset with the proposals. Amid all the chaos Gurudev called me and said – 'No need for duet – leave me alone, I feel like myself in a disaster. Do you know what a young lady has been trying to insist? She says – Gurudev, if at all I have to adjust for a duet – I wish to do with you and no one else. Now save me.' It was at last settled to raise the scale.
In the meantime another problem had surfaced. Uma Basu was singing the song 'Mone ki dwidha rekhe gele ...', where she could not reach the Gandhar of the upper octave while singing the phrase 'biday-kaale' that she was required to do. Then Gurudev had altered it by maintaining the tune to higher 'Sa' instead of raising it any further. ...

Mone ki dwidha rekhe gele chole se din bhara snaaje, Jete jete duwar hote ki bhebe phirale mukhokhani - Ki katha chhilo je mone. Tumi se ki hese gele aankhikone - Aami bose bose bhaabhi niye kompito hridayokhani, Tumi aachho dur bhubane. Aakashe urichhe bakopnaati, Bedona aamar taari saathi. Barek tomay sudhabare chaai bidaikale ki balo naai, Se ki roye gelo go sikto juthiro gandhobedone.
