Mrs Sarbani Sarma (nee Mukherjee ) had her schooling at the Kamala Girls High School and passed the MA examination in Philosophy from the Jadavpur University in the year 1980. She had passion for Rabindra Sangeet from her childhood and learnt with precision the tradition of singing Rabindra Sangeet at SURANGAMA, Kolkata, under the tutelage of late Sailajananda Majumder and other specialists. She successfully completed the five year diploma courses in Rabindra Sangeet, classical singing and guitar from SURANGAMA. At the inter- college competition on Rabindra Sangeet organised by the Jadavpur University, she ranked the first position in the year 1975. At present, she performs in solo and group songs in programmes organised by various organisations and also plays Esraj in such programmes.
