বাংলা ভাষায় 'য়'-এর নির্ভুল উচ্চারণ

This page explains in detail the correct pronunciation of 'য়' in Bengali. The origin of the sound is the larynx. It is called Semi-vowel however it is not derived from Sanskrit. The written form of this sound is 'য়'. It is pronounced as 'ইঅ', which is comparable to English 'y'.

'য়' বাংলা বর্ণমালার বর্ণ, কিন্তু তা সংস্কৃতজ নয় । এই বর্ণকেও সান্ধ্যক্ষর (semi-vowel) বলা হয়েছে এবং এর উচ্চারণ 'ইঅ' –এই রূপ স্বীকৃত । বাংলা ভাষায় তার উচ্চারণ 'ইঅ' হয় ।

শব্দের মধ্যে বা শেষে থাকলে স্বরান্ত বা ব্যঞ্জনান্ত দুইই হতে পারে । তখন 'ইঅ' বা 'এ' উচ্চারণ হয় এবং 'য়' এই বর্ণ দিয়ে প্রকাশ করা হয় । 'ইঅ' বা 'এ' –এ দুটি ধ্বনির উচ্চারণ অত্যন্ত কোমল ভাবে করা হয় ।
